Many of these portraits will be familiar to you, some may not, but all were amazing. We saw these original oil paintings by Norman Rockwell today at the Tacoma Art Museum, along with many others.

Julie and I drove down to the Tacoma Art Museum to see their new exhibit,
American Chronicles: the Art of Norman Rockwell.

We've all seen Norman Rockwell prints in the newspaper or as the cover art of
The Saturday Evening Post, but to actually see the original artwork was amazing. The textures and depth of the oils; the fine detail; the size of the paintings! We spent over 2 hours gazing at memories of Americana seen through the eyes of this American Icon. 40 of his original paintings were showcased, along with prints of all 322 covers of the Saturday Evening Post.

Photography was not allowed, so I'm showing jpeg photos borrowed from the Norman Rockwell Museum store as examples of the amazing pieces of his art. Except for the last portrait, we saw all these original paintings at the museum. I had to include "The Optometrist" though, to remind me to keep studying for my state board exams. I plan to purchase a 13 X 16 print, after passing my exams, as a momento of both events.

If you live nearby, make sure you take a trip to Tacoma. The exhibit runs through May 30th.
